Starting a 12 week Short course in Cyber Security

Why Cybersecurity?

After officially dropping out of university, I decided to use this time productively to learn the fundamental skills I need to update my CV in 2026. My goal is to gain qualifications that are more aligned with today’s standards in the tech sector.

I believe this cybersecurity course will provide me with the foundational theory and practical skills needed in the industry. It will also help kickstart my CV alongside the other online certifications I am currently planning to complete.


What Will I Be Learning?

The course is delivered entirely online. The curriculum is accessible through an online learning platform, and our live classes are conducted via Zoom.

Some of the key topics include:

  • Fundamentals – Core principles and funddemental skills
  • Network Security & Infrastructure
  • Ethical Hacking & Pentesting Techniques
  • Career Development - enhancing portfolio website showcasing skills learnt through study and Hands-on training use SOC simualation and Offensive simualation to practice core skils seen within the industry.

There is a lot more covered in the curriculum, and I will be keeping this blog updated with my progress as I move through the material and what ive learnt while showcasing skils through write-ups, projects or blog posts.


What Are My Aims Over the 12-Week Short Course?

My main goals for this project are:

  • Understanding the fundamentals Refreshing and understasnding core fundemental computing and cybersecurity knowledge
  • Mastering new software – Getting hands-on experience with new tools and softwares using virtual machines and other tools that I used to find challenging to adapt to or have never had prior experience with
  • Employment – Leveraging this initial certification to showcase my skills and secure an entry level role in the field.

Conclusion

I am really looking forward to starting this short course and building a strong broad skill set that will help me excel and land my desired job. I plan to update this blog throughout my studies and continuous selff learning throught progressing different units to showcase what I have learned and how these skills can be practically applied within the industry.
